Abstract:

Lecturer’s Biography:

Chen Hua is a Professor at Wuhan University. He previously served as Dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Wuhan University; Standing Director of the Chinese Mathematical Society; Standing Director of the Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics; Member of the 6th and 7th Evaluation Panels for Mathematics under the State Council; and Member of the 3rd Committee for the Mathematics and Physics Division, Ministry of Education Science and Technology Commission. He has also served as an editorial board member for several important domestic and international mathematical journals, and as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Mathematics.

Currently, Professor Chen is Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Mathematics at Wuhan University. His research focuses on the microlocal analysis theory of partial differential equations, with significant achievements in the study of degenerate partial differential equations, the spectrum of degenerate elliptic operators, and biomathematical models. To date, Professor Chen has led 26 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), including the National Distinguished Young Scholar Fund and the National Overseas Distinguished Young Scholar Cooperative Fund. He was a key member of the Eighth-Five-Year and Ninth-Five-Year National Key Projects, and the Tenth-Five-Year National Key Project. Over the past decade, he has continuously led the Twelfth-Five-Year National Key Project (2012–2016), Thirteenth-Five-Year National Key Project (2017–2021), Fourteenth-Five-Year National Key Project (2022–2026), and the Interdisciplinary Platform Project of the NSFC Tianyuan Fund (2017). He was also a core member of the 973 National Key Basic Research Program in Mathematics (2001–2006) and a member of the National Key R&D Program Key Special Project (2022–2027). Additionally, he received the Cross-Century Outstanding Talent Fund from the Ministry of Education (1997–2000). In 2022, the research team on partial differential equations at Wuhan University, led by Professor Chen, was awarded the NSFC Innovation Team (2023–2027). In 2025, Professor Chen was approved to lead another NSFC General Program (2026–2029).

Professor Chen has published over 120 papers in important domestic and international mathematical journals. He has received the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Ministry of Education twice (in 1992 and 1999). In 2017, the project he led won the First Prize for Natural Science from the Ministry of Education.
