   Based on my observation and experience, some thoughts on being a mathematician (researcher) and a department chair (administrator) will be given. A short introduction of the post-graduate programs in our department will also be presented.

报告人简历：

谭天祐(Tin-Yau Tam)教授于1986年获得香港大学博士学位，现任美国内华达大学里诺分校(University of Nevada, Reno)数学与统计系终身教授、系主任，研究领域为李群和矩阵论。在《Canadian Journal of Mathematics》、《Linear Algebra and Its Applications》、《 SIAM Journal of Matrix Analysis and Applications》等国际学术期刊发表重要学术论文一百余篇。担任国际学术期刊《Alabama Journal of Mathematics》的主编和《Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra》、《Linear and Multilinear Algebra》、《Special Matrices》的编委。
