In the preliminary round of the 17th National College Mathematics Competition held in 2025, Shenzhen University students achieved outstanding results through their solid mathematical foundation and exceptional competitive skills.
The School of Mathematical Sciences has consistently prioritized this competition, meticulously organizing and preparing for it. For multiple consecutive years, it has been honored with the “Outstanding Organization Award” by the organizing committee, with its organizational efforts receiving unanimous praise from both the committee and participating universities. This year, 486 students from our university participated across all four categories, ultimately securing 163 awards at various levels. The award rate reached 33.5%, significantly exceeding the provincial average, fully demonstrating the mathematical literacy and comprehensive strength of Shenzhen University students.
The specific award results are as follows:
1. Mathematics Major Group Category A (Highest Difficulty): 15 winners. Among them: - 4 First Prizes (Yang Le ranked 4th in Guangdong Province, Wu Xuyue ranked 47th, Hua Wenhao ranked 82nd, Xue Changle ranked 93rd) - 2 Second Prizes - 9 Third Prizes Notably, students Yang Le, Hua Wenhao, and Xue Changle from the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Excellence Program) class of the School of Mathematical Sciences achieved outstanding results, all winning first prizes.
2. Mathematics Major Group B: A total of 4 students were awarded. Among them, 2 won first prizes; 1 won a second prize; and 1 won a third prize.
3. Category A for Non-Mathematics Majors: 129 winners. Among them: 28 First Prizes (led by Ke Yilin with an outstanding 3rd place in Guangdong Province); 42 Second Prizes; 59 Third Prizes.
4. Non-Mathematics Major Group B: 15 students received awards. Among them: 4 won first prize (led by Zhang Junhao, who ranked 9th in Guangdong Province); 5 won second prize; 6 won third prize.
Moving forward, 3-4 students from our university will advance to the national finals (with an advancement rate of only about 0.38%).

The National College Mathematics Competition is a high-level national mathematics contest organized by the Chinese Mathematical Society and hosted by regional competition zones. Since its inception, the competition has garnered continuous coverage from mainstream authoritative media outlets including People's Daily Online, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, and China Education Daily. It attracts widespread participation from top-tier domestic universities such as Tsinghua University and Peking University. In 2024, over 320,000 students from 32 regional divisions nationwide registered for the competition. Currently, this event has been successfully included in the observation list of subject competitions by the China Higher Education Society.
Participation in this competition helps stimulate students' interest in mathematics, cultivates their ability to analyze and solve problems, enhances the quality of talent cultivation, promotes the development of mathematics curricula, and provides a platform for young scholars to showcase their mathematical thinking skills and learning achievements.
