From April 17 to 19, 2026, the finals of the 17th National College Mathematics Competition were held at Sichuan University. Two students from our university, Ke Yilin and Yang Yifei, delivered outstanding performances and won the competition’s highest honor—First Prize in the National Finals.

The finalists for this year’s National College Mathematics Competition were selected from the top performers in the preliminary rounds across various regions. In the preliminary rounds of the 17th competition, our students demonstrated their solid mathematical foundations and steady competitive skills, achieving a 33.5% award rate—exceeding the Guangdong provincial average—and fully showcasing the strong mathematical grounding and outstanding comprehensive abilities of Shenzhen University students. Only three students from our university advanced to the finals, with a national qualification rate of approximately 0.38%, reflecting extremely fierce competition. Among them, Ke Yilin and Yang Yifei stood out, successfully winning first prizes in the national finals and setting a new record for our university’s competition achievements.

For a long time, the School of Mathematical Sciences has placed great emphasis on the educational value of academic competitions. It has meticulously coordinated and thoroughly prepared for the National College Mathematics Competition. Thanks to its high-quality organizational work, the school has been awarded the “Outstanding Organization Award” by the organizing committee for many consecutive years, and its organizational capabilities have been highly recognized by the Guangdong Provincial Organizing Committee, the National Organizing Committee, and participating universities. At the same time, the School has established a systematic and professional talent development system for mathematics competitions: it has formed a teaching and research team dedicated to mathematics competitions to conduct related activities; it offers courses such as “Selected Topics in Mathematical Analysis” and “Selected Topics in Advanced Algebra”; and it provides a series of short tutorial courses in mathematical analysis, advanced algebra, analytic geometry, and advanced mathematics; It has organized discussion groups to facilitate regular academic exchanges and seminars among students, invited competition experts to deliver specialized lectures on campus, and taken the lead in hosting the Shenzhen Regional Research Conference for the Guangdong Division of the National College Mathematics Competition, thereby comprehensively enhancing students’ mathematical proficiency.

Organized by the Chinese Mathematical Society, the National College Mathematics Competition is a premier mathematics competition in China renowned for its high standards and prestige. Since its inception, the competition has garnered significant coverage from mainstream authoritative media outlets such as People’s Daily Online, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, and China Education Daily, attracting participation from faculty and students at top universities nationwide, including Tsinghua University and Peking University. The 2025 competition spanned 32 regional divisions across the country, with over 320,000 participants. Currently, the competition has been included in the observation list of the China Higher Education Society’s Subject Competition Ranking. The competition aims to stimulate college students’ interest in mathematics, hone their problem-analysis and practical problem-solving skills, assist universities in optimizing their mathematics curriculum systems and improving the quality of mathematics and science talent cultivation, and build a high-quality platform for young students to showcase their mathematical thinking and consolidate their learning achievements, thereby effectively promoting the cultivation of innovative and interdisciplinary undergraduate talent in mathematics and science.
