Title: Generative AI Empowering Primary and Secondary Mathematics Education

Abstract: On November 30, 2022, OpenAI launched ChatGPT, which rapidly garnered global attention and discussion due to its exceptional natural language processing capabilities, marking the official dawn of the Generative AI (GenAI) era. This presentation will systematically elucidate the core characteristics of generative AI and introduce common generative AI tools and platforms. Furthermore, it will share insights from a practical case study on leveraging generative AI to empower mathematics teacher education students in conducting microteaching case studies.
Presenter Profile: Yuan Zhiqiang, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Hunan Normal University. Deputy Head of the Department of Mathematics, Program Director for Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Program Director for Mathematics Education and Mathematics Curriculum and Pedagogy. Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from East China Normal University. Visiting Scholar at Northern Arizona University (USA) and the University of British Columbia (Canada). Member of the Ministry of Education's Overseas Visiting Scholar Program for Teacher Education Faculty. Vice Chair of the Intelligent Mathematics Teaching Committee, China Educational Technology Association. Member of the Secondary Mathematics Education Working Group, Mathematical Education Branch, Chinese Mathematical Society. Secretary-General of the Basic Education and Secondary Mathematics Competition Committee, Hunan Mathematical Society. Author of over 50 papers in academic journals including Research in Educational Technology, Journal of Mathematics Education, International Journal for Lesson and Learning Studies, and Journal of Computer Assisted Learning. Published one monograph and led multiple research projects, including the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project “Exploratory Research on Cultivating Innovative STEM Teachers.”
