Title:A New Paradigm for Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration Driven by AI: Pathways and Practical Insights from Young Faculty

Speaker:Xiao Ke, Assistant Professor (Shenzhen University of Technology)

Time:11:00-12:00, Apr. 10, 2026

Location:Alumni Plaza Room 307

Abstract:This presentation explores shifts in research paradigms within the context of AI, drawing on the practical experiences of young faculty members navigating disciplinary competition, project pressures, and rapid technological evolution to discuss emerging transformations in the current research landscape. As AI technology advances and its application scenarios continue to expand, research activities are gradually shifting from a paper-centric focus toward integration with real-world problems and industrial needs. This shift opens new avenues for reflection among researchers from diverse backgrounds. Building on this, the presentation will share a practical approach that has evolved over time: starting from specific application scenarios, extending to system development and platform-based exploration, and in turn supporting research outputs such as papers, patents, and projects throughout the process. Using the presenter’s firsthand experience with the “AI Engine and Intelligent Business System Platform for the Insurance Industry” project as an example, the presentation will introduce the application of relevant technologies in real-world business contexts and share some preliminary insights. Overall, it is hoped that these insights will provide young faculty members with guidance in identifying more diverse and sustainable career paths in the AI era.

Speaker Profile:Dr. Xiao Ke is an Assistant Professor at the School of Artificial Intelligence, Shenzhen University of Technology, and Director of the Greater Bay Area Collaborative Innovation Laboratory. His primary research and teaching focus is on artificial intelligence and statistical modeling, with an emphasis on exploring the application of new technologies—such as large language models—in medical imaging, recommendation systems, and the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises. He has published numerous SCI-indexed papers, with research spanning algorithmic theory and engineering applications, and has secured multiple patents in mainland China and Hong Kong. He also leads several industry-academia collaboration projects, driving the R&D and implementation of algorithm libraries, knowledge platforms, and industry-specific intelligent solutions. He is committed to deeply integrating academic research with industrial needs to build an application-oriented, collaborative AI technology ecosystem in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
