College introduction

The Mathematics discipline at Shenzhen University was established in 1983. In 1996, the Mathematics Education Department was established in the College of Education, and in 1998, the Mathematics Department was established in the College of Science. In 2006, the two departments merged to form the School of Mathematics and Computational Science, which was renamed the School of Mathematics and Statistics in 2015. For forty years, the faculty and students of the Mathematics discipline have adhered to the school motto of "self-reliance, self-discipline, and self-improvement," worked hard, and continuously developed and strengthened the academic strength of the Mathematics discipline, laying a solid foundation for the construction of a high-level university at Shenzhen University.

The College currently has 100 full-time faculty members, including 21 professors, 44 associate professors, 35 assistant professors, and 17 doctoral supervisors. There are currently 3 recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 1 awardee of the Ministry of Education's Changjiang Scholars Program, 2 recipients of the National Excellent Youth Fund, 2 experts who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, 1 winner of the Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award, 1 top young talent of the Pearl River Talent Plan, 5 candidates for the "Thousand, Hundred, Ten" Talent Project in Guangdong Province, 2 candidates for the Outstanding Young Teachers Training Program in Guangdong Province, as well as many high-level talents in Shenzhen.

The College currently includes Department of Mathematics, Department of Applied Mathematics, Department of Information and Computational Science, Department of Statistics, and the Teaching Department of College Mathematics. There are several research platforms, including the National Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences at Shenzhen, the National Center for Applied Mathematics at Shenzhen, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao (National) Applied Mathematics Center - Shenzhen Sub-center, the Engineering Technology Center for High-definition Video Intelligent Analysis and Processing at Guangdong Provincial Universities, the Key Laboratory of Modern Machine Learning and Applications at Shenzhen University, and the Shenzhen University Mathematical Research Institute.

The College currently offers a doctoral program in Mathematics, two master's programs in Mathematics and Statistics, and a professional master's program in Applied Statistics. The main research areas include Complex Analysis, Partial Differential Equations Theory and Computation, Operations Research and Optimization, Algebra and Number Theory, Statistics, Information Science, and Cross-disciplinary Applications. The College has formed a team of distinguished researchers in these fields.

The College is continuously optimizing its discipline, faculty, and platform layout, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation, creating a relaxed research environment, and significantly enhancing its research strength and international competitiveness. In the past decade, the College has hosted 84 national natural science foundation projects, including three major key projects, two key projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and more than 100 provincial and municipal research projects, with a total research funding of nearly 100 million yuan. Over 800 academic papers have been published in high-level academic journals such as "J.Eur. Math. Soc.", "Adv. in Math", and "Science China".

The college currently has over 900 undergraduate students and more than 250 graduate students. It offers three undergraduate majors: mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computational science, and statistics. The information and computational science major has been selected as a national-level first-class undergraduate program. In the past decade, the college has undertaken 14 provincial-level or above education and research reform projects, guided students to participate in nearly 500 provincial-level or above subject competitions, and published over 10 textbooks, reference books, and monographs, including 2 of which have been selected as teaching materials in the 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans of ordinary higher education by the Ministry of Education. In addition, 6 teachers have been awarded the highest teaching award of Shenzhen University, the President's Teaching Award. The college's teachers have won 7 national awards and 10 provincial awards in various mathematics teaching competitions, and three courses have been selected as first-class undergraduate courses in Guangdong Province.

The college has also strengthened the cooperation with enterprises in its educational activities, and, based on the traditional talent cultivation mode, added two micro-programs: "Innovative Application Development Based on the HarmonyOS System" and "Actuarial Science". The college has a long-term employment rate of over 90%, and more than 30% of its students continue their studies at well-known universities at home and abroad. During its forty years of operation, the College has always kept in mind the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and educating people, and accumulated more than 4,800 outstanding graduates for the country and society.
