On the afternoon of September 27, 2025, the Symposium on the Construction of National First-Class Undergraduate Programs in Mathematics at Shenzhen University was held at the Alumni Plaza of Shenzhen University’s Yuehai Campus. More than 30 experts and scholars from 14 universities including Sun Yat-sen University attended the symposium. The opening ceremony and report session of the symposium were hosted by Director Chen Bo of the Department of Information and Computing Science of the school, while the expert exchange and sharing session was hosted by Professor Chen Zhibing of the school.
At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary Wang Yu delivered a welcome speech first. She welcomed all experts and scholars who had come from afar, and briefly introduced the development history of the school’s Information and Computing Science program. She pointed out that since the program was established in 2004, it has achieved a series of milestones: it was approved as a Provincial Key Undergraduate Program in 2019, became a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in 2022, and was rated as a ShanghaiRanking China A-Class Program in 2025. Every leap forward embodies the efforts of the school’s faculty and students. She expressed the hope that through this symposium, with the wisdom of all experts, the program could receive "diagnosis and suggestions" to prepare for the assessment and acceptance, striving for a higher level, and applying for new first-class programs in the future.

Professor Yao Zheng’an, President of the Guangdong Mathematical Society, Director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao (National) Applied Mathematics Center, and Professor of the School of Mathematics at Sun Yat-sen University, introduced the construction of undergraduate programs at Sun Yat-sen University. This included the development history of the Base Class and Top-Tier Innovation Class, the construction of curricula and teaching materials, training objectives and achievements. He also expressed appreciation and recognition for the rapid development of the mathematics discipline at Shenzhen University in recent years.

Vice Dean Han Yu reported on the various reform measures adopted by the School of Mathematical Sciences of Shenzhen University in the construction of first-class undergraduate programs in recent years, as well as the achieved effects in talent cultivation. He also requested the attending experts and scholars to provide criticisms and corrections.

In the subsequent exchange and discussion session, all experts spoke freely and shared cases and experiences from their respective universities in aspects such as the application for first-class programs, optimization of curriculum systems, construction of faculty teams, and innovation in practical teaching.

The successful holding of this symposium is an important opportunity for the School of Mathematical Sciences of Shenzhen University to promote the construction of first-class undergraduate programs. It has opened up new horizons and new paths for the development of mathematics-related programs at Shenzhen University, and also contributed to the collaborative development of first-class undergraduate education in the field of mathematics in Guangdong Province.
