Title:A Case Study on Mathematics Instructional Design and Implementation

Speaker:Professor Hongping Yang (Shanxi Normal University)

Time:10:00-11:00, Dec.6, 2025

Location:Huiwen BuildingH1-102

Abstract:The primary task in designing mathematics instruction is analyzing and processing the teaching materials. Analyzing the materials involves breaking them down to understand the essence of each component or level. Processing the materials entails selectively refining, adapting, and organizing them based on the developmental points of students' cognitive structures, transforming the content from an “academic form” into an “educational form” that is accessible to students. To achieve student-centered teaching in the classroom, the “Reading • Thinking • Expression” instructional model can be employed.

Speaker Profile:Yang Hongping, Professor at Shanxi Normal University, holds a Ph.D. and serves as a Master's supervisor. She is a council member of the Second Council of the Mathematical Education Branch of the Chinese Mathematical Society and an editorial board member of the Journal of Mathematical Education. She teaches courses including “Mathematics Pedagogy,” “Mathematics Instructional Design and Case Analysis,” and “Interpretation of Mathematics Curriculum Standards and Textbook Analysis.” She has published four monographs, including Twelve Lectures on Lesson Presentation, Mathematical Reading Cognition and Instruction, and Research on the Structure and Development of Mathematical Reading Ability in Primary and Secondary School Students, with publishers such as Higher Education Press and Renmin University Press. She has also edited three textbooks, including Primary School Mathematics Curriculum and Textbooks and Secondary School Mathematics Instructional Design and Case Analysis. She has authored nearly 40 papers in journals such as Chinese Higher Education, Journal of Mathematics Education, and Mathematical Bulletin, six of which were reprinted in full by the Renmin University Periodical Reprint Center. She has led 11 provincial/ministerial-level projects and received 10 provincial/ministerial-level awards.
