Lecture Title: Global asymptotic stability of shallow water equations under dynamic boundary conditions

Speaker: Prof. Kun Zhao (Harbin Engineering University)

Date & Time: 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM, June 22, 2025

Venue: Classroom No. 4, Convergence Stars Building

Abstract: This presentation is built on a series of recent findings concerning the qualitative behavior of a system of dissipative-dispersive partial differential equations, which emerge from the modeling of weak tidal bore propagation in shallow waters. Our emphasis is on the global asymptotic behavior of classical solutions to this model with naturally prepared initial data under evolutionary boundary conditions of both Dirichlet and Neumann types.

Biography: Kun Zhao, Professor at Harbin Engineering University, earned his B.S./M.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China and Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology. He conducted postdoctoral research at Ohio State University’s Mathematical Biosciences Institute and served as Visiting Assistant Professor (University of Iowa), Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor (Tulane University). His research specializes in qualitative/quantitative analysis of nonlinear PDEs in mathematical biology, fluid dynamics, and mathematical physics. Author of 60+ SCI papers in journals including Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., Indiana Univ. Math. J., SIAM J. Math. Anal., and J. Differential Equations. Currently serves on the editorial board of Annals of Applied Mathematics and has led multiple NSF-funded projects.
