Title:Characteristics of Complex Big Data and Several Research Questions

Speaker:Professor Zhang Riquan(Shanghai University of International Business and Economics)

Time:10:30-11:30, Sept. 17, 2026

Location:Room 601, Huiyan Building, Yuehai Campus

Abstract: Using aviation safety big data as an example, this report describes the characteristics of complex big data, including its highly complex features such as massive volume, multiple sources, heterogeneity, high dimensionality, time-series nature, high frequency, imbalance, similarity, heterogeneity, distributed nature, privacy concerns, low quality, functional nature, and stream data. It further discusses some of the scientific research challenges that arise in this context.

Speaker Profile:Dean of the School of Statistics and Data Science at the University of International Business and Economics (Shanghai); Professor and Ph.D. advisor; Chair of the Big Data Statistics Branch of the Chinese Society for Field Statistics. Member of the editorial boards of journals such as Statistical Research and Mathematical Statistics and Management; Associate Editor for the 8th and 9th terms of the journal Applied Probability and Statistics. Formerly served as Dean of the School of Statistics at East China Normal University and Director of the Ministry of Education’s Key Laboratory of Frontier Theories and Applications in Statistics and Data Science; has published over 230 papers and led more than 20 research projects, including key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Shanghai Natural Science Foundation.
